Websites For Photographers
These days photography is an online business. You might
create your images offline but that's where it ends. Your market
expects to find images online, preview them online, order online
and more often than not, pay online.
Without a web presence of some description you're basically out
of the loop and narrowing your prospects to next to nothing. Most
photographers realise all this though and have made the move in
recent years. And many have never looked back.
Setting up your own website can be a very rewarding experience.
It's creative, it's problem solving, and it's at least a little
bit technical ... three things that photographers as a group
tend to enjoy.
Operating a successful online photography business can be
financially rewarding as well. The market for quality images has
never been stronger and there is good money to be made.
However, it takes more than a website and good intentions to
make it all work.
That's what this site is all about. I'm sick of seeing people
doing it wrong, wasting time and effort building elaborate and
expensive websites that just don't work, and wondering what the
heck they have to do?
So I've brought together many of the resources I use daily to
design, develop, manage and market my websites. At last count
there were over 27 websites in our network, the 'flagship' of
which is OzImages Stock
Photography Library.
The resources you'll find here are the essentials ... the tools
and reference material I couldn't imagine living without. Some I've
been using for ten years now, others I wish I'd found a whole lot
sooner.
I don't expect you'll use all of these, so all I'd suggest is
that you look them over so you at least know what's here if you
find do need it. Consider the 'function' each one offers first ...
you can always look for other tools to do the job, once you know
what actual jobs you want to get done.
Some of these suggestions might seem a little bit 'abstract'
to a photographer, but I'm a big believer in learning whatever
you can from anyone who's doing something right ... so be
prepared to explore some areas of the 'net you mightn't have seen
before!
The web is constantly evolving and taking off in new directions
... and you need to keep an open mind, watch the leaders and
innovators, and be prepared to apply what they're doing to your
own operation.
Hopefully I'll be able to do a lot of the 'watching' for you via
this website, so be sure to call back from time to time and see
what's new. Enjoy!
